"The unexamined life is not worth living" - Socrates
Our mission statement:
"We want to live in a world free from cruelty, exploitation and prejudice."
Is this such an unusual desire? It seems not, yet people who actively pursue such a lifestyle are often branded as "loonies" or "weirdoes." A closer examination reveals why. The vehicles for the above are greed, ignorance and apathy; with greed institutionalised (in the west, we are inculcated with materialistic values), ignorance celebrated (witness recent TV offerings and current "celebrities") and apathy encouraged ("just don't think about it"), then any opinion riding contrary to these tendencies is bound to meet with hostility - most people just do not wish to make any lifestyle changes at all unless there is some proven material benefit for themselves.
